Our Hawaii Vacation Kona Makai Condo is on the Kona (in the Hawaiian language, "kona" means "leeward side" or "dry side" of the island) side of the island of Hawai'i just about a mile south of the town of Kailua-Kona (see red star on map).
The Kona Makai condominium complex is beautifully landscaped, and the common facilities include an ocean-side swimming pool, hot tub, tennis courts, and direct access to the black lava coast of the Pacific Ocean for snorkeling, diving or fishing.
The volcanic slopes of Mount Hualalai and Mauna Loa in the Kona district provide an ideal microclimate for growing coffee. Kona coffee is considered one of the premium specialty coffees of the world.
Kona is perhaps best known as the home of the world-famous Ironman Triathlon World Championship held each year in October in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i and is broadcasted worldwide.
The State of Hawaii is located on an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean southwest of the continental United States, southeast of Japan, and northeast of Australia. The state was admitted to the Union on August 21, 1959, making it the 50th state. Its capital is Honolulu on the island of Oahu. The most recent census estimate puts the state's population at 1,283,388.
The State of Hawaii encompasses nearly the entire volcanic Hawaiian Island chain, which is made up of hundreds of islands spread over 1,500 miles. At the southeastern end of the archipelago, the eight "main islands" are (from the northwest to southeast) Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lānai, Kahoolawe, Maui, and Hawaii. The last island, Hawaii, is by far the largest, and is often called the "Big Island" to avoid confusion with the state as a whole. For you technical types, this archipelago is physiographically and ethnologically part of the Polynesian subregion of Oceania. Whew!
